I purchased this unit to play CD's in my office and the CD player quit within 12 months. I am very disappointed in Sony quality.
Had to spend $25 to ship it to Texas and now waiting for word. Sounded fine, but after about 2 mos. I think Sony should pay shipping when their product konks out so early. or so (after point when it could be returned to Amazon)., stopped powering up. Called support, and after half hour on line got return number. Beware of this item. Forsyte.
They say you get what you pay for, but I'm not sure you get even that with this mini system. I always had good luck with Aiwa in the past but I'm not sure they're around anymore. I couldn't recommend this to anyone, even for the price.
Everything is getting more and more shoddily made, even products by revered Sony. On top of that, the amber-colored display is very hard to read, and the remote does not allow you to select individual tracks. It's cheap - maybe okay for a spare room, but don't expect too much.
It's a fairly rinky-dink system, with lousy speakers and a non-functioning equalizer function (as I see others have complained about this, I was correct, you can't change the bass or treble). Now that they're farming out production of these kinds of products to China, it's fair to ask if the golden age of Japanese audio technology has come to an end. This system would suggest it has.
My suspicion is that this unit will not stand the test of time either, but that's just a hunch so far. I wish I'd looked around more before I bought this.
After inserting a CD, the system makes a clicking noise, the display indicates that it is trying to read the CD, and then a minute or so later the display reads No Disc. After reading the positive reviews, we purchased the Sony CMTBX1 system the last week of March. However, much to our disappointment, less than a month later the CD player stopped working. The CDs all play fine in other CD players. Cannot in good faith recommend this system
This is a pretty nice CD player for the price. The biggest problem is that the function that is supposed to allow you to adjust the treble and bass is broken. The design is really nice (it fits in my entertainment system, unlike many other players for this price which are bulky), and the sound is decent. The functions are standard. We didn't think it was worth exchanging it, though. Overall, a decent, stylish looking player.
